Making a Plan
Our staff and the people we support come from dozens of cultures. We celebrate Matariki, Diwali, Christmas, and so many more cultural festivals. But this is just the beginning.
Community Living recognises Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the articles. Our Maaori / Equity Lead provides support and advice to the Chief Executive on cultural matters both for employees and service delivery.
We recognise cultural differences may exist between individuals providing support and the person they are providing support for. We train staff to take this into account when supporting people with disabilities.
Achieving our vision depends on partnering effectively with disabled people, families and whaanau, and our communities.
We will engage with iwi, hapu and other cultures, building trust as a partner, learning from our communities and ensuring we meet our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Cultural considerations are built into our contracts and service Ngaa Paerewa quality standards
We have ties to Te Papa O Rotu marae, where staff learn about Maaori Culture.
